Ellen Gee
Hot Air Balloon
G-BMOH
G-BMOH: Cameron N-77 - 1986
S/N: 1270
G-BMOH was first owned by the Legal and General Insurance Group and was their first balloon; they later bought a larger ‘N-90’ (G-BSCA), which was sold to Malaysia and a small ‘N-42’ (G-BPHD), that has been withdrawn from use.
G-BMOH first flew on 8th June 1986 (for 33 minutes).
L&G sold G-BMOH after 5 years to private owners; at this stage the lettering and branded colours on the umbrellas were removed. We became the third private owners in January 2015.
G-BMOH has been known as Ellen Gee (L&G!) for some time.
Ellen Gee was made in Bristol by the famous Cameron Balloon company and is a N-77.
The ‘N’ describes the 24 gore design of balloon, this style was often chosen for marketing purposes because of the smooth envelope surface which is perfect for artwork. You can design your own on the template here.
‘77’ refers to the cubic capacity of 77,000 cubic feet, small one-man cloudhoppers start at 21,000 cubic feet and some large commercial passenger balloons are as large as 750,000 cubic feet!
